Pokémon GO Weather Explained
Pokémon GO uses an in-game weather system that affects boosted types, wild encounters and raid catches. The seven main categories are Clear, Partly Cloudy, Cloudy, Rainy, Snow, Windy and Fog. Each one boosts a different group of Pokémon types.
For casual players, weather is mostly a background feature. For raid-focused players, it can be a strategy tool. Knowing the active weather helps you decide which raids are more valuable and which cities may be worth checking during events.
How weather affects Pokémon
When a Pokémon type matches the active weather, that Pokémon can be weather boosted. This can make wild Pokémon appear at higher levels and can make raid bosses available at a higher catch level. The boost does not guarantee better IVs, but it can make a Pokémon cheaper to power up.
Why raid players care about weather
Legendary Pokémon are often only available for short periods. If Rayquaza, Necrozma, Kyogre, Groudon or Darkrai is in raids, players may want the best possible catch opportunities. Weather boost is one way to improve the value of a raid session.
Why in-game weather can differ
The weather shown in Pokémon GO can differ from real-world observations. The game appears to use forecast-style data and hourly update blocks. This means the icon in the game may not match the sky outside or the weather app on your phone.
How PogoWeather estimates it
PogoWeather matches Pokémon types to weather categories, then checks forecast data for selected cities. The model pays special attention to conditions that commonly cause errors, such as wind windows, light rain and high cloud cover.
