Pokémon GO weather boost guide

Weather in Pokémon GO affects specific Pokémon types. When a Pokémon’s type matches the active in-game weather, it can be weather boosted. This is useful because boosted Pokémon can appear at a higher level, which may save Stardust and Candy after capture.

This guide summarizes the key weather boost matchups. It does not replace the in-game weather icon, but it gives you a simple foundation for understanding what PogoWeather checks when you search for a Pokémon.

How to use this chart

Start with the Pokémon’s type. Rayquaza, for example, is Dragon and Flying, so it is linked to windy weather. Kyogre is Water, so it is linked to rainy weather. Groudon is Ground, so it is linked to clear or sunny weather.

PogoWeather automates this process: it fetches the Pokémon’s types, finds the matching weather categories, and then checks configured cities for likely matches.

Why results are still estimates

Niantic does not publicly document the exact weather source, thresholds, or cell system used by Pokémon GO. PogoWeather therefore provides a practical estimate. The best way to use it is to compare several cities, prioritize high-confidence results, and verify the weather icon in-game.
